1997 marked the end of the YJ era and the start of another period of Jeep evolution. Jeep's tried and true leaf spring design was retired in favor of a four-link coil spring design. While Jeep purists initially scoffed at this break from tradition, the TJ's amazing off-road performance, and much improved on-road driveability, eventually won over most skeptics. Properly equipped, a TJ can be an enjoyable daily driver and a very competent off-road machine. This is no small accomplishment!
The TJ 4-link suspension design is much like that of the mid-size XJ series Wagoneer / Cherokee. These vehicles use a track bar to locate each axle left-to-right, and four link arms to locate the axles front-to-rear.
Black Diamond AT shocks are available for both the 3" and 6" lift system. Popular options include sway bar disconnects, body lifts (offered in 1", 2", and 3" heights), and a replacement heavy duty steering stabilizer; refer to the Optional Accessories page for more details.
3" Lift System - This system covers all the vases. Lift is achieved via replacement coil springs that are pre-set during the manufacturing process to minimize settling. the system also includes front anti-sway bar quick-disconnects, longer rear anti-sway bar links, a rear track bar extensions bracket, closed-cell foam compression travel dampeners, and a transfer case lowering kit. 3" is the maximum amount you can lift a TJ without also replacing the axle-to-frame link arms with longer units, which considerably increases system cost. Black Diamond does offer a premium replacement XT series link-arm; refer to the Optional Accessories page for more details. Optional front / rear adjustable track bars allow more bind-free suspension articulation, plus the bars are rebuildable. The 3" lift allows clears for 32" diameter tires.
6" Lift System - Black Diamond's 6" system raises performance standards both on and off-road. new pre-set coil springs provide lift while maintaining factory ride characteristics. Drop brackets relocate both the factory upper axle-to-frame links, and the new Black Diamond Xtreme Terrain (XT) lower links on both front and rear axles. These components help restore proper suspension geometry, steering alignment and driveline angles. The new XT lower links feature premium factory type, steel encased rubber bushings at the upper (chassis) ends. This combination of bushings (rubber upper / Urethane lower) transmits less driveline vibration, improves control and provides quieter, less " squeak prone" operation.
New, rebuildable front / rear adjustable track bars center the axles side-to-to side, improve on road handling characteristics, and increase off-road suspension travel. A dropped pitman arm reduces steering linage angles, while Black Diamond's front track bar relocation bracket ensures proper "phasing." Front anti-sway bar quick-disconnects are included to increase off-road suspension articulation, while replacement rear anti-sway bar links prevent bar preload. Black Diamond's Slip-Yoke Eliminator Kit, offered separately, is required to relieve rear driveline angle if your TJ is equipped with a NP-231 transfer case. The 6" system is capable of clearing most 35" diameter tires on standards offset wheels, provided the Jeep is not excessively heavy.
Why is my vehicle not listed on the application chart?
Bottom line, if they make a Suspension System for your vehicle, then chances are we
can get it. There are a lot of different applications for Suspension
Systems, unfortunately we don't have them all available to order on our website.
