Power Tuning Made Simple
Power Tuning is defined as experimentally adjusting both fuel
flow and ignition timing relative to the airflow of an engine,
over the entire RPM range and at full throttle, in order to deliver
the most possible horsepower. Hypertech's Engineers use computerized
chassis dynos to develop optimized point-by-point, precise spark
and air/fuel ratio curves for your vehicle's engine and powertrain
producing more horsepower and torque without sacrificing reliability.
Hypertech engineers take a responsible approach to performance by matching
increases in engine power to the drivetrain's capabilities. In
the old days, tuning meant you had to change carburetor jets
and adjust distributor curves. It was tedious, dirty, and the
results weren't always what you expected. With the Hypertech
Power Programmer, you get predictable results without getting

Why the two added tuning options?
When operated under heavy loads and for long periods of time,
diesels can build up excessive heat in their engines and transmissions.
When that occurs, the check-engine light may come on, or flash
off and on, as a warning to either back off on the power level
or lighten the load. While you can't always lighten the load,
Hypertech's three-stage tuning lets you select the maximum
power tuning level that can be safely used under high load
conditions.
Why should you use the transmission
shift firmness option?
This should be used when non-stock tuning is in the vehicle.
At high boost levels and higher torque, the transmission needs
to have firmer shifts. This helps keep automatic transmission
clutch plates from slipping, especially important when towing
heavy loads.

Hypertech Dual Fuel Feature Delivers
Premium Performance on Regular Gas!
Hypertech is easing the pain of rising prices at the
gas pump. Hypertech has developed exclusive "Dual Fuel" tuning
calibrations that deliver virtually the same power increases
with regular gas as they do with premium. Hypertech's Power
Programmer is the only device that offers this powerful Dual
Fuel feature.
"The truth is that most trucks make exactly the same power on
tuning optimized for regular as they do with optimized premium," explained
Mark Heffington, the founder and president of Hypertech. "For
these vehicles, there is never a reason to use more expensive
premium unleaded."
While some competitors claim to have tuning for regular gas,
their calibrations for regular gas typically make no more power
than the stock tuning. In contrast, Hypertech's optimized power
tuning for regular gas produces virtually the same power gains
as the premium gasoline tuning. For example, Hypertech Power
Tuning for a 2003 Hummer H2 with a 6.0-liter V-8 engine adds
17 horsepower over stock with regular gas and 22 horsepower with
premium.
Owners of trucks and SUVs are concerned with the cost of operating

chassis dynamometers to develop fuel curves and ignition timing
calibrations to maximize performance and fuel economy with regular
fuel.
"Hypertech Power Tuning for regular grade fuel is substantially
more powerful than stock tuning with either regular or premium
fuel," Heffington noted. "Simply stated, this means increased
power for less money. It's a win-win situation because truck
and SUV drivers get more power for towing and save an average
of 25 cents per gallon at the pump."
Those savings can add up. If a truck owner buys 50 gallons of
gas a week for a year and saves 25 cents per gallon with regular
unleaded, the annual savings is $650 dollars. At that rate, the
Power Programmer quickly pays for itself.

Limiter To Match The Speed Rating Of Your Tires
When you feel the need for speed, Hypertech’s advanced
Power Programmer III lets you electronically adjust your vehicle’s
top speed limiter to match the speed rating of factory-approved
high-performance tires. The maximum speed of many modern vehicles
is governed by the onboard computer. The stock computer is programmed
to shut down the engine when the vehicle exceeds the speed rating
of the original equipment tires. But if you have installed tires
with a higher speed rating for off-highway competition in sanctioned
events, your vehicle may be able to achieve a faster top speed.
A tire’s maximum safe speed under perfect conditions is
marked on its sidewall. The codes for popular high-performance
tires are: T = 118 mph, U = 124 mph, H = 130 mph, V = 149 mph,
Z = 149+ mph.
The Hypertech Power Programmer III gives you the power to adjust the computer’s
top speed limiter to match these speed ratings (depending on

If you’ve installed non-stock tire sizes for more grip
on the road, taller tires for more traction on the strip, or
a different rear gear ratio, you must reprogram your vehicle
computer for correct speedometer and odometer readings, as well
as correct part-throttle shifting. That’s because the electronic “brains” in
late-model vehicles are programmed to work properly only with
the factory-installed tire size and rear gear ratio. The Hypertech

computer for non-stock tire sizes and/or rear gear ratios at

Here's How It Works!
The vehicle computer calculates your vehicle’s speed based
on the diameter of the stock tires. If you’ve installed taller
or shorter tires, or changed the rear axle ratio, the vehicle computer
doesn’t know how fast your vehicle is really going. As a
result, the automatic transmission may not shift correctly and
the speedometer/odometer readings will not be accurate (as required
by law). The Hypertech Power Programmer III lets you select different
