A new powered, hard paneled, retractable tonneau cover is helping Chevrolet
Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT owners enhance the functionality, convenience and style of
their vehicles. Developed by Auto-Covers Inc., Livonia, Mich., the system is designed to replace the
awkward, inconvenient tonneau panels that must be removed manually after determining where to
store them.
“The most important feature about this new tonneau system, is its functionality”, say Frank Neubrand,
Co-Owner/Founder of Auto-Covers Inc. “Coming from the convertible design industry, I saw an
opportunity to upgrade the current 3-hard panel system on the Avalanche and Escalade EXT to a
more convenient tonneau system while enhancing the functional features of the manual system and
the mid-gate.”
Neubrand is very familiar with new technology, design and engineering concepts; holding over 30-patents with 10 plus years of convertible engineering and development experience. Neubrand, who
also developed the concept for the Cadillac XLR roof system, saw a development opportunity: “I
thought this new tonneau system was a great idea because it adds the last level of convenience that
is missing on the Avalanche and Escalade EXT.” Adding an LCD screen, custom painting the covers
to color match your vehicle, adding a lightening systems are just some of the customizable
possibilities. This system was designed for functionality and style.
Peter Elkowitz, Co-Owner/Founder of Auto-Covers Inc., has a strong background in structural
analysis and advanced program management. His experience in managing advanced programs for
Tier I suppliers, gives him an advantage in setting up this company. “We did our homework using
our Tier I experience in design, program management, production methods and due diligence in
product development. Our tonneau system is engineered to the utmost standards and
specifications” says Elkowitz. “This tonneau system was designed and tested over 3-years with
several prototypes and over 4000 cycle runs, and counting!”
Per Neubrand “There is so much potential in the system, and considering it’s unique market
standing, we filed a patent. We wanted to make sure to deliver a product that was greatly improved
over the current system; something that offered functionality with style. This was not just about re-creating the same product. This is a whole new concept in tonneau system design. Our product is a
